My name is Ethan Sayler. I serve as the pastor of Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church (PCA). I am a man in desperate need of grace, and have been blessed to know the all-sufficient Grace of God in Christ Jesus my Savior.
I completed my undergraduate work at Sterling College in Sterling, KS in 1995, and earned a MDiv. from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2001.
I am married with four children (15, 13, and 8, and 6); and if I ever find the time, I love to run, read, and play with the kids.

Spoken like a true Presbyterian. It’s good to know there a men like you in the PC(USA). As member of the OPC, I do appreciate your devotional based on the Heidelberg Catechism. It’s is incredibly encouraging. Our congregation is currently going through the HC each Sunday for the entire year.

Thank you for contacting me. I did write a devotional for my congregation a few years ago based on the Westminster Shorter Catechism. Your email made me realize that I hadn’t posted it to my blog, but I have added it now. Christian greetings from the Philippines! My name is Rev. Nicky Joya, a pulpit minister of United Evangelical Church of Manila (UECM), and I am writing on behalf of Bro. Lawrence Ty, the Chairman of the Board of said Church.
I saw the material, “Westminster Shorter Catechism, A Devotional Guide” posted on the website, stcroixchristianchurch.com. After asking them who the author of the devotional was (and after a month of search), they pointed me to you as the probable author. You see, I have been looking for a material that I can give to our church members that they could use for their personal and family devotions, and I thought that this would be the perfect one. I’m sure that this would ground them on the basic beliefs of the Christian faith.
When I shared this with our Board Chair, Bro Lawrence, he was in agreement about my plan and wanted to reformat the material into booklet form. He plans to fund the printing of the booklet and give each of our attendees a copy to use for their devotions. Our church has three satellite congregations in the provinces of northern Philippines (Luzon).
In view of this, we are asking your permission to print the material into booklet form and distribute the copies for free. We will not sell them and profit from its distribution.
Further, we would like to put your name as the author as the material does not indicate it. We would certainly like to give due recognition to you.
If you allow us to do this, may we also request a letter (email) giving Bro. Lawrence Ty permission to print the material with the provision that this will not be sold?

Hello! My name is Janice Taylor from Midland, Michigan. As I was waking up from a sound sleep around 3 AM, the words, “Strength for today and hope for tomorrow” were on my mind. I couldn’t think of anything but those 7 words. I knew they were from a song but I couldn’t pull the name of the song out of the ‘hope chest’ of my brain which holds all of the songs of hope and victory, from the Lord, which I’ve acquired over my 46 years of being a Christian. I decided to wait until morning when I could google those words and discover the song which I KNEW would cause me to say…”I KNEW THAT I KNEW THAT SONG!!!” And that is just what happened. Then I wanted to investigate further into what the Lord wanted me to find through those 7 words imprinted on my thoughts earlier. I wrote in the words and a few items came up. I was drawn to the writing from WORD PRESS, since I have been on the site before. That is when your blog of 2010 came up and I read it and printed out a copy. I love simplicity. My husband and I attend a Word Of Faith Church near here in Sanford, Michigan where we are continually “well fed” spiritually. I am so thankful for our Pastor and his wife. And we have learned the simplicity of God’s Word for the 6 years we have attended. I LOVE your blog and what you wrote because it is simple. YET, so much depth in what you write. It’s not that you wrote something I don’t already know, but you put forth a perfect reminder or recall, to bring out what the Lord has been showing me and speaking to me about. AND with humor. I don’t even know if you will see this…after all it IS TEN years later! God BLESS you and your wonderful family. Thank you for sharing!

As we read in Hebrews 10, “since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”

I’d be happy to let you place the devotional study of the Heidelberg Catechism on your website. If you send me your email address, I’ll email you a .pdf format of it, if that will help. I haven’t looked it over lately, so there may be some typographical errors. The devotion was originally written to serve as an insert in our church bulletin each week, thus the brevity of each devotional.
My only request is that you make no changes to the material, and that you don’t charge anyone access to use it. My prayer is that God will be glorified as the devotions, the catechism, and God’s Word, draw us closer to Him.

Willem – It was a few years ago that you contacted me about using the devotion that I had written on the Heidelberg Catechism in your church. I was wondering if you had used this material, and how it was received within your congregation.

I eventually converted your notes to a module for “theWord” and placed it on a CD which I distribute to members of our congregation free of charge. The feedback I got was very positive.
Some families used it as part of their daily devotion.
If you wish, I can send you the module. What is nice about theWord is that the Scripture reference will pop up when you hover the mouse over the reference.
